"In scientific method, Vincent, we do the following: observe or ask a question. Research. Hypothesize. Test the hypothesis. Analyze the results. Conclude. Communicate. That's all there is to it. Do you have that? Repeat the steps to me."
"Yes, Father, I have it. We ask, discover, theorize, test, decipher, form opinions, and relate the findings."
(My father sighed then, all heavily serious, all devout scientist.) "Why do you insist on using different terminology? These are stated scientific methods, son. They are what they are, and proven to work as advertised. Why do you have to change them?"
(The answer was so simple.) "My way sounds more fun."

Observation: Something keeps the city residents from the resort. Since arrival, have not witnessed any city residents on hotel property, although hotel guests may visit the city. Why?
Research: includes available data from other asteroid-based cities in this star system, data culled from SSW resources. Outpost 12 City varies from standard grid pattern and layout. Noted differences include the separation between the city area and the resort area.
Hypothesis: Spaceport is the link between the two. A power greater than the general citizenry is responsible for maintaining the one-way separation.
Test: I am the only available test subject. I have visited the city on numerous occasions. The residents of the city are aware of the resort and its activities, but refuse to enter the property. Have left significant trails and clues leading the curious to this place.
Analysis: All clues and invitations offered have been dismissed and ignored. City residents will ignore Subject when at all possible.
Conclusion: Residents are disinterested in the goings-on at the resort property.

Observation: Increased organized crime activity in Outpost 12 city.
Research: includes available data from other asteroid-based cities in this star system, data culled from SSW resources. Particular attention paid to both Shugoryuu and Seijoutai.
Hypothesis: Edict from Corporate (Shugoryuu via Seijoutai) for increased Syndicate activity.
Test: As I prefer not to die today, the test has been stealth-based and for observational purposes only. Subjects seem to move with some autonomy, although there are frequent hesitations for data-gathering and order-taking.
Analysis: Conversations overheard have led to proof of the hypothesis.
Conclusion: Increased organized crime activity in Outpost 12 city.

Observation: Growing defense system in Outpost 12 city.
Research: includes available data from other asteroid-based cities in this star system, data culled from SSW resources. Particular attention paid to incoming cargo shipments via spaceport manifests (easily trackable).
Hypothesis: Pending increase in violence planned. City versus resort suspected.
Test: In progress.
Analysis: TBD.
Conclusion: TBD.
"But Father, why does science have to be so dry? Why can't it be more interesting?"
(My father doesn't like this conversation, but we have it often, especially since my mother died.) "It is interesting, Vincent. In fact, it's fascinating. Once you learn it -- once it's ingrained -- it will be a part of your thought process forever. Imagine that. You can be a scientist too some day. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have work to do. Papers to write."
"Do you ever do this work with others?"
(My father smiled and turned into his study. "Ask me that again when you're older, Vincent. You'll understand the answer better." (He closed the door and disappeared from my sight).
